A Manhattan the Flying Dutchman couldn't refuse! Ketel One Citroen chilled with a splash of Lagavulin or Oban Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Sweet Vermouth and a dash of Bitters - superb.

Ingredients

0.75oz Ketel One Citroen Flavoured Vodka

0.25oz Lagavulin or Oban Single Malt Scotch Whisky

0.25oz Sweet Vermouth

3 Dashes of Bitters

1  Lemon Twist (Garnish)

Equipment

1 Martini Glass

1  Ice Scoop

1  Jigger

1 Mixing Glass

1 Julep Strainer

1 Bar Spoon

1 Tongs

method

  1. Rinse a chilled Martini glass with the Scotch Whisky and set aside.

  2. Add all the remaining liquid ingredients to an ice-filled Mixing glass.

  3. Stir to mix, chill and dilute.

  4. Discard the Scotch Whisky from the Martini glass.

  5. Strain into the chilled Martini glass.

  6. Garnish with a Lemon twist.

The spec for this drink can be tweaked to suit different palates by either creating the 'Sweet', 'Dry' or 'Perfect' Manhattan.

History of the Drink

The Olean, New York, Sunday Morning Herald published a story in September 1882, and is believed to the earliest recorded written mention of the Manhattan. A combination of Whisky, Vermouth and Bitters only recently became popular following a statement from the same article regarding the name of this mixture. 'It went under numerous titles - Manhattan Cocktail, Turf Club Cocktail, and Jockey Club Cocktail'.
