Here are three bars, in and around Amsterdam, you’re likely to find me on a day off:

Mr. Mofongo

A restaurant, cocktail bar, distillery and rum ageing warehouse rolled into one, Mr. Mofongo is easily one of the most talked about bars in The Netherlands. Two hours north of Amsterdam, it opened in 2013 and has already accumulated an impressive number of awards from prestigious F&B rankings and leading lifestyle magazines (and therefore worth the drive or train ride!)

The team, well reputed for serving up such innovative experiences as crocodile meat paired with an aged Negroni, is headed by Lennart Deddens who placed third at Diageo Reserve World Class Netherlands this year. Previously hailing from a speakeasy-styled bar in Belgium, Lennart’s menu features the classics as well as contemporary creations with an emphasis on jenever. Visit to marvel at the in-house distillery while you treat yourself to a Cosmopolitan Daisy:

Cosmopolitan Daisy

50ml Tanqueray No. TEN gin
10ml Raspberry syrup
25ml Lemon juice#
2 dashes of triple sec

Method: Combine all ingredients in a shaker, shake with ice and fine strain into a chilled champagne coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Snappers | Resto-bar

At this brand new establishment located in Amsterdam’s city centre, guests are welcomed into a relaxed, retro space with a Mediterranean-Caribbean twist. Expect lots of fresh fruit and homemade juices and syrups. Tiki and tropical cocktails feature on the menu alongside comfort foods like Surf ‘n Turf and Fish & Chips. Barrel aged cocktails are a highlight, as is the expansive selection of Gin & Tonic variations. The bar team is helmed by owner and head bartender Oscar Steginga, a stalwart in the Dutch bar industry and a veteran in the competition circuit. Don’t miss out on the Healthy Pluym.

Healthy Pluym

40ml Ketel One vodka
5 fresh raspberries
40ml Green tea
20ml Rice syrup
15ml Lemon juice
Prosecco to top up

Method:
Combine all ingredients in a shaker, shake with ice and strain into a chilled glass drinking jar. Top up with Prosecco and garnish with a mint sprig and raspberry.

Method:
