Mehmet Sur


In 2007 Mehmet moved to Dubai from Turkey to take on his first serious bartending role in The Intercontinental Hotel. After embracing bartending and cocktail culture Mehmet moved to the opening of The Gramercy New York Tavern base bistro restaurant bar at the Dubai Financial District in 2010. During his time at Gramercy, Jimmy Barrat (World Class Global finalist 2011 & 2012) would frequent his venue on split shifts and saw potential in Mehmet. It wasn’t long before Jimmy poached Mehmet to join his team at the multi-award winning Zuma Dubai and it was Jimmy’s mentorship and guidance that propelled Mehmet into a new world of cocktail culture.

This year Mehmet took title of the World Class UAE Bartender of the Year, the first time there has been a winner from Abu Dhabi for the UAE title, and he will be one of the finalists lining up in South Africa.
