Oaxaca Old Fashioned
The Oaxaca Old Fashioned was a gigantic crowd pleaser from the moment I started serving it. It remains true to a very important maxim I believe we started saying at Pegu Club: “There is nothing as complex as simplicity”. The Oaxaca Old Fashioned is an embodiment of that statement.
I didn’t set out to create a modern classic; I always set out to create great drinks. We put it on the menu shortly after its creation and then it was mentioned in the press a few times, and from there it just spread like wild fire. At this point, it has probably been on menus on three or four of the world’s continents!

40ml Don Julio Reposado Tequila
15ml Mezcal Joven
2Dashes Angostura Bitters
1Tsp Amber Agave Nectar
1 Flamed Orange Twist
Equipment
1 Mixing Glass
1 Old Fashioned Glass
method
1. Build over ice in a mixing glass
2. Stir
3. Pour over fresh ice in an old fashioned glass
4. Garnish with a flamed orange twist
