Method

  • Preparation
    1. Muddle the Limes and Sugar in the Rocks Glass.
    2. Add the Rum and crushed ice.
    3. Stir and finish with a cap of crushed ice.
    4. Garnish with a Lime Wheel

Caipirinha is the national drink of Brazil and is often served at Brazilian parties and celebrations. It is also a popular tourist drink, as it is easy to make and very refreshing.

History of Drinks

The São Paulo state countryside is where the name Caipirinha, which means "country little girl," originated. There are several origin myths. One of which claims that due to the Spanish flu outbreak in the nation at the beginning of the Nineteenth Century, it was typical to ingest a mixture of cachaça, lime, honey and garlic.
This therapeutic beverage eventually made its way to the port of Santos where it earned the name "Caipirinha" because the major component, cachaça, which typically came from Piracicaba in the São Paulo hinterland.
