Interesting Facts

The Grasshopper is traditionally made with green crème de menthe, white crème de cacao and cream. It's often garnished with a mint sprig or chocolate shavings.

History of the Drink

The Grasshopper is a classic cocktail that has a rich history dating back to the early 20th Century. While its exact origin is uncertain, the cocktail is believed to have originated in New Orleans where it quickly became a staple of the city's vibrant cocktail culture. However, the Grasshopper didn't gain widespread popularity until the 1950s and 1960s. The Grasshopper is typically made with equal parts crème de menthe, crème de cacao and cream. The crème de menthe and crème de cacao gives the cocktail its distinct green colour, while the cream adds a smooth and creamy texture. The ingredients are typically shaken together with ice in a cocktail shaker and then strained into a chilled glass. The cocktail is often garnished with a sprig of fresh mint or a dusting of cocoa powder. The Grasshopper's sweet and creamy flavour profile has made it a favourite among dessert lovers and cocktail enthusiasts alike. While it was originally created as an after-dinner drink, it can be enjoyed at any time of day or night. The cocktail has also inspired numerous variations over the years, with some bartenders adding ingredients like coffee liqueur, Irish cream or even ice cream to create their own unique twist on the classic recipe.
