Vat 69 is a reliable and accessible Blended Scotch Whisky with a rugged but canny personality.
The makers of Vat 69, William Sanderson and Son, created this blend from up to 20 malt and grain whiskies.
Sanderson's most famous blend was born out of an elaborate experiment in 1882: Nearly a hundred of his blends were each stored in a separate numbered cask. He then called a number of skilled blenders and friends and invited them to sample each blend and to select the one, which was in their opinion, the ideal Scotch whisky blend.
The choice was unanimous and the number of the cask or 'Vat' was '69'.
In 1914 Sir Ernest Shackleton took supplies of Vat 69 on his Imperial Trans- Antarctic expedition, stating that it would be used for medicinal and celebratory purposes.
The distinctive bottle, the Talbot hound and the "Quality Tells" tagline are reminders of the rich heritage of Vat 69. They still symbolically guard the quality of the Scotch whisky held within.
Vat 69 is most popular in Venezuela, Spain and Australia.
