History of the Drink
The Gin Basil Smash was invented in 2008 by German bartender Jörg Meyer, who was inspired by the classic Whiskey Smash cocktail. Meyer wanted to create a cocktail that showcased the flavours of fresh herbs and citrus – the Gin Basil Smash was born. The cocktail is typically made with gin, fresh basil leaves, lemon juice and simple syrup. It’s often garnished with a sprig of basil or a slice of lemon.
