History

This simple yet brilliant cocktail follows the basic elements of a punch (sour/sweet/sour/weak) and is all about letting the base spirit (in this case whisky) shine! The first written record of this recipe is in Jerry Thomas’ iconic ‘The Bartender’s Guide’, from 1862. However, it’s likely that sours existed for many years before this, as they were popular drinks among sailors on naval ships, who added lemon to their drinks to ward off scurvy.

Recipe

  • 45ml Johnnie Walker Black Label
  • 30ml Lemon juice
  • 10ml Simple syrup
  • Lemon peel

Preparation:

  1. Add all ingredients into shaker with ice and shake hard.
  2. Double strain into a Rocks glass.
